Hale Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Datant LLC ("Datant", "we", "us"), which operates Hale. By creating an account or using Hale, you agree to these Terms and to the Hale Privacy Policy. For anything these Terms don't cover, the general Datant Terms of Service apply.

1. Eligibility & verification

Hale is only for adults aged 18 and over. By using Hale you confirm you are at least 18 and legally able to agree to these Terms.
Every member must verify their identity with a live selfie and a valid government ID before using Discover. The date of birth on your ID becomes your age on Hale.
Attempting to trick verification — a fake, altered or borrowed ID, someone else's selfie, or any other deception — results in a permanent ban. Hale puts safety before growth.
You may not use Hale if you've been banned from Hale, if you're required to register as a sex offender, or if you've been convicted of a violent or sexual crime.
You may have only one account.

2. Your account

You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Keep access to that email secure; you're responsible for activity on your account.
Your profile must be truthful and represent you. Photos must be of you, and you must not impersonate anyone.

3. Community rules

To keep Hale safe and respectful, you must not:

harass, threaten, bully, stalk, intimidate or discriminate against anyone;
share nudity, sexual content or sexually explicit messages, or engage in sexual acts on video calls;
share violent, hateful, graphic or illegal content;
share any content that sexualizes or endangers minors — we have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation and report it to the relevant authorities (see our child safety standards);
solicit money, promote or sell products or services, run scams, or ask for financial information;
offer or solicit commercial sexual services, or engage in human trafficking;
share other people's private information without their consent;
use bots, scripts or automation, or try to get around verification, bans, limits or security;
record, screenshot or share another member's video call or private messages without their consent;
use Hale for anything illegal.

4. AI safety monitoring

You understand and agree that, to keep members safe:

messages are checked by AI after delivery, and video calls are monitored by sampling still frames (audio isn't analysed);
new profile photos are checked automatically before they're added;
nothing is recorded unless a violation is detected — then the relevant messages, frames or a short clip are saved for up to 30 days for review by trained safety staff;
depending on severity, flagged messages may be hidden, video may be paused, calls may be ended, and warnings, strikes, suspensions or bans may follow.

AI can make mistakes. Humans review flags before lasting action is taken. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

5. Your content

You own the photos, text and other content you post. You give Datant a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, translate (when you ask), moderate and transmit that content to operate and secure Hale. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except as described in the Privacy Policy (for example, safety evidence). We may remove content that breaks these Terms.

6. Meeting people

Verification confirms that a member is a real adult who matches their ID; it isn't a background check. Datant doesn't conduct criminal background checks and isn't responsible for the conduct of any member, on or off Hale. Use good judgment: meet in public, tell a friend where you're going, never send money, and report anything suspicious. If you're in danger, contact local emergency services first.

7. Plans & payments

Hale is free to download and use. Being seen and matched, reading messages, replying to anyone who writes to you first, answering video calls, reporting, blocking and chatting with Eva (within a daily limit) never need a plan.
A plan is needed to start new conversations and to place video calls: Hale Connect (start conversations and translate messages) and Hale Plus (everything in Connect, plus placing video calls). Plans are monthly auto-renewing subscriptions bought in the app through Google Play or the Apple App Store. Current prices are shown in the app, in your currency, before you buy, and may change; a change never applies to a period you have already paid for.
New accounts get 14 days with every feature unlocked, free, without payment details.
A plan renews each month until you cancel it. You can cancel any time — in Google Play → Subscriptions, or on iPhone in Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions — and keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. On the App Store, a plan renews unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
Payments are processed by Google Play or Apple, and refunds are handled under their refund policies. A plan isn't transferable and ends when your account is deleted, banned or terminated; cancel it in the store too, so it doesn't renew.

8. Reports & enforcement

You can block or report any member at any time. We review reports and may issue warnings or strikes, limit features, suspend or ban accounts, remove content, and cooperate with law enforcement where required or where someone's safety is at risk. Deleting your account doesn't escape an open safety action (see the Privacy Policy). If you believe we made a mistake, email us and we'll review it.

9. AI features

Your personality read, compatibility ranking, match explanations and conversation openers are generated with AI. They're for fun and guidance only and may be inaccurate. They aren't psychological, medical or relationship advice.

10. Disclaimers & limitation of liability

HALE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DON'T GUARANTEE MATCHES, THAT HALE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THE ACCURACY OF MEMBER PROFILES OR AI OUTPUT. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DATANT ISN'T LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR THE CONDUCT OF ANY MEMBER, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR HALE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US $100. Nothing here limits liability that can't be limited by law.

11. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app (You → Delete account) or by following the steps on the account deletion page. We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these Terms or to protect members or Hale.

12. General

Governing law: the laws of the State of South Carolina, USA, with courts in South Carolina, except where your local consumer law gives you other rights.
App stores: Google and Apple aren't parties to these Terms and aren't responsible for Hale or its support. Where you downloaded Hale from the Apple App Store, Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms.
Changes: we'll update the date above and tell you in the app about significant changes. Continuing to use Hale means you accept them.
